Unique Service or Value Project Idea: HOPE Art Handmade Dresses Project

23 February 2012

As one of the many service arms of Project HOPE Art, the Handmade Dresses Project benefits poorly-clothed orphan girls living in Haiti. This super easy sewing project is a great idea for Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, or Good Works value projects, depending upon your focus. A young woman could work on this project on her own or organize a service night for a Mutual activity.

The first batch of dresses was delivered in January, but more trips are planned for April and July.

Win $50,000 for college!

6 March 2010

How’d you like your daughter to win $50,000 for college and a $1000 Jo-Ann Fabric gift card? If she knows how to sew, she might want to enter Jo-Ann’s contest by making her own prom dress (a popular option for LDS young women anyway – modest prom dresses are hard to find!).

Contest entries must include a prom dress and accessory and be made with fabric bought from Jo-Ann’s. In addition to the grand prize there are nine other prizes, the lowest being $1000 cash and a $100 Jo-Ann gift card. Not too shabby! Winning entries will be judged on originality, workmanship and the level of detail.

What a great opportunity for young women! Keep in mind, a project like this would fulfill Personal Progress Knowledge requirement #2, or work great as a Value Project for Divine Nature, Knowledge, Choice & Accountability or Integrity.
